North Shore Pro Bono

Education and coaching workshops about separation, divorce, parenting arrangements, support, and division of property and debt. You’ll get an overview of your rights and obligations, and they can identify next steps, provide resources, and guide you to sources and organizations that can help with dispute resolution, and more.

Community partners (legal aid community outreach)

Legal Aid BC

These service providers located throughout BC have partnered with Legal Aid BC to improve access to legal aid services in rural, remote, and Aboriginal communities. They help you get free legal information, call legal aid, find your nearest legal aid location, get legal help online, and connect with people who can help.

North Shore Community Resources

The family law advocate helps with issues such as divorce, parenting time, and child/spousal support. The legal advocate helps with problems involving your landlord, employment, income assistance, debt, and more. The legal information and assistance coordinator helps with legal aid referrals, wills and estates, debt, and other issues.

Community Law Program

Community Legal Assistance Society (CLAS)

Legal advice and assistance to low-income individuals, generally to appeal a decision. Issues include housing (Residential Tenancy Branch, and more), income security (Employment and Assistance Appeal Tribunal, and more), workers’ rights (SST appeals on EI, and more), human rights (federal), and mental health (Mental Health Review Panel, and more).

The clinic provides advocacy, legal advice, and representation mainly to low-income individuals. Areas of the law include social assistance, income assistance, tenancy, employment (including employment insurance and employment standards), workers’ compensation, human rights, debt, and disability (including mental health).

Advocacy Centre

Nelson Cares Society

Provides legal information, education, and help with problem solving for low-income residents of the West Kootenays. They can help with welfare, family law, tenancy, women’s safety, and poverty survival. They also provide specialized victim assistance to victims of relationship violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. Advocacy services are free.

Access Pro Bono Virtual Family Mediation Program

Access Pro Bono

Free online family mediation and advice services for low- and modest-income families across BC. Family mediation is a collaborative way for parties to come to an agreement on issues that come up when a marriage or common-law relationship ends, including property division, debt division, parenting arrangements, child support, and spousal support.
