A directory of lawyers (as well as paralegals, and other professionals offering therapeutic support and assistance) offering self-represented litigants (SRLs) affordable assistance, primarily in the form of unbundled legal or limited-scope services (unbundling).
Provides legal information services to the public via a network of libraries in BC courthouses. You’re encouraged to call or email before visiting as they can provide many services this way and can save you time. The libraries provide access to staff expertise, print and digital legal collections, and public computers.
Legal Aid BC staff who guide you through the legal aid process. They answer questions about legal aid; provide practical support; help with your appointments; communicate with your lawyers; connect you with duty counsel, Family LawLINE, and other community services; and find you the specialized support services you may need.
To qualify for a legal aid lawyer, your legal problem must be covered by their legal aid rules and you must meet their financial guidelines. When applying, intake staff will ask you for complete and true information about your legal problem, income, savings, and assets. Proof of the financial information you provide is required.
Helps agricultural workers with multiple barriers deal with legal appeals and complaints related to employment insurance, WorkSafeBC, employment standards, and more. They also help with employment-related disability cases, tenancy issues, and more. They offer legal representation and information, maintain resources, and do referrals.
Provides legal advocacy to low-income residents in Campbell River and the surrounding area. They can help with disability benefits, seniors’ benefits, residential tenancy disputes, and consumer debt issues. Volunteer lawyers are available, by appointment only, to people who can’t afford a lawyer.
Pro bono (free) legal advocacy services to caregivers and other migrant workers. They help with immigration, employment issues, labour exploitation, and trafficking and human rights. They cover issues such as recovering lost wages, illegal recruitment fees, employment contracts, EI, immigration status, work permits, and temporary resident visas.
Free legal advice and representation on issues such as criminal summary offences, civil resolution, small claims, residential tenancy, WorkSafeBC, consumer protection, EI, CPP and Old-Age Pension, wills and estates, and immigration and refugee issues. They may draft certain types of legal documents such as demand letters, wills, and more.
The Kinship Care Help Line serves callers from across BC. The helpline provides support, advocacy, and information to grandparents and other relatives raising a family member’s child.
A legal clinic for women who have experienced violence. Services are trauma informed and violence informed, culturally responsive, and offered in several languages. Staff, interns, and volunteer lawyers provide legal information, accompany you to court and legal appointments, appeal when legal aid has been denied, and help you prepare documents.
